FBD Insurance Intermediate Championship
The final round of group games in the FBD Insurance Intermediate Championship took place at the weekend, though one game in Group 2 between Newport Ballinahinch and Toomevara had to be postponed and will be refixed. In Group 1, Boherlahan Dualla finished top of the table with an impressive four wins from four, sealing their place in the knockout stages with a hard-fought 3-18 to 3-15 victory over last year’s beaten finalists Moycarkey-Borris. Boherlahan Dualla will be delighted with their form to date and will head into the next phase full of confidence.
Moycarkey-Borris suffered a huge blow to their campaign by the early loss in the season of Amy Callanan to a broken collarbone, while Kate Ralph also missed the top of the table clash with Boherlahan with an injury. Despite their setbacks, Moycarkey did more than enough with three wins from their four outings, defeating Borris-ileigh, Kilruane MacDonaghs and Nenagh Éire Óg to finish third in the group. Nenagh’s victory over Kilruane proved crucial as it ensured a fourth-place finish and progression, while Kilruane’s season ends at the group stage. Relegated down from senior last year Borris-ileigh secured third spot with 2 wins from 4.
In Group 2, Cahir have been the standout side, winning all three games to date, including an impressive victory over Holycross Ballycahill on Friday night to secure top spot. Holycross, with one win and one draw, are safely through, while Newport and Toomevara will complete the quarter-final line-up regardless of the outcome of their refixed clash. That result will determine the final placings in the group and the quarter-final pairings.
FBD Junior A Championship
The final round of group games in the FBD Insurance Junior A Championship took place over the weekend and the quarter-final pairings are now confirmed. Kiladangan, having topped Group 4, progress straight to the semi-final as group 2 contained only three teams. Last year’s beaten semi-finalists, they have shown real intent this season with three wins from three, capped by a commanding 3-18 to 0-03 victory over Cashel King Cormacs at the weekend.
In Group 2 there was little to separate the teams, with St. Rita’s Fethard, Brian Borus, Gortnahoe-Glengoole all finishing level on points with one win and one defeat apiece. Score difference proved decisive, leaving St. Rita’s in first place, Brian Borus in second and Gortnahoe-Glengoole in third. Despite being many people’s favourites at the start of the year, having reached last season’s final, Lorrha have struggled for form and failed to record a victory but still advance to the knockout stages in 4th place in group 1.
Templemore have been going very well with three wins to secure second place in their group, while Cashel King Cormacs victory over Lorrha proved enough to see them claim third spot. The quarter-final line-up is as follows: St. Rita’s Fethard will face Lorrha, Brian Borus will take on Cashel King Cormacs, and Templemore will meet Gortnahoe-Glengoole, with Kiladangan awaiting in the semi-final.
