Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Junior Championship

Tipperary 1-27

Tyrone 1-08

Tipperary Juniors made the long trip to Tyrone to take on the home team in round 2 of the Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Junior Championship. Ciara Brennan scored Tipperay’s first score of the game with an early point while Roisin McErlean pointed a 45m to get Tyrone off the mark. This was followed by the first of Jenny Grace’s 10 points. In a trademark Grace performance Jenny was excellent throughout the 60 minutes. Brilliant on the ball with superb distribution while also hitting 5 points from play and another 5 from frees. She was a constant thorn in the Tyrone rear-guard. Sinead Meagher was another player who had her aim in, hitting 7 points from play. In the early stages Tipperary were already looking the sharper in front of goals and a missed penalty from Tyrone didn’t help their cause. Roisin McErlean had her second point before Tipperary shot 6 unanswered points thanks to Jenney Grace (4) and captain Sinead Meagher (2). Tyrone needed a score to stop the onslaught and it came in the form of a goal from Roisin O’Neill McKee after a fine delivery from Lara Devlin. Again Roisin McErlean was on target for Tyrone to make it 1-03 to 9 points to Tipperary. Tipperary finished the half really strong powering pass the Tyrone defence to score 1-06 without reply to leave the half time score 15 points to 1-03. The Tipp points coming from Ciara Brennan (2), Jenny Grace(1), Emma Flanagan(1) and Sinead Meagher (2). While Kilruane MacDonagh’s Amy Quinlisk fired home the crucial goal. The deficit could have been a lot smaller only for 3 brilliant saves from Laura Leenane in quick succession along with some excellent defending by Lorna Ryan.

Just like the first half Ciara Brennan got the opening score of the game after the restart. Bill Mullaney’s side were in flying form especially in front of goals and points from Jenny Grace, Amy Quinlisk, Jill- Anne Quirke, Eva O’Dwyer and Laura Shinners extended their lead. Samantha McKillen point stopped the Tipperary onslaught while Roisin McErlean pointed a 45m after Lara Devlin’s effort was saved. McErlean pointed another free but Tipperary then hit another 4 points in a row through Sinead Meagher and Laura Shinners. Tyrone had the final say with a Lara Devlin point after a good pass from Róise Kerr. The final score read 1-27 to 1-08 and Tipp now march on to round 3 against Wicklow in Wicklow on the 15th June.
