County U14 A Final

Boherlahan Dualla 0-06

Borris-ileigh 0-02

Last Wednesday evening in Winter like conditions in the County Camogie Grounds in the Ragg Boherlahan Dualla and Borris-ileigh met in the U14 A County Final. At half time the sides were level 2 points each but with the wind at their backs in the second half and despite relentless pressure from Borris-ileigh Boherlahan held on to claim a third U14 A title in a row. A fantastic achievement for the club. The first half was very even and closely contested with brilliant workrate and displays of hooking and blocking. Mae Kennedy hit the target twice with a pointed free followed by a point from play. Ella Groome was very good for Borris-ileigh and scored 2 first half points from play, the second coming on the 16th minute to make it 2 points apiece. That was to be the final score of the half as both sets of defenders excelled making scores hard to come by along with a strong wind.

Boherlahan Dualla started the second half brightly with some powerful runs from Saoirse Maher and Leah O’Connell. Six minutes into the half they took the lead with a superb free from distance and close to the sideline from Mae Kennedy. Three minutes later Nicole Tarrant got her name on the scoreboard to make it 4 points to 2. Borris-ileigh needed to respond as the danger was there that Boherlahan could pull away with the wind. They immediately upped the tempo and started to win plenty of breaking balls. Zara O’Donnell and Tara Maher cleared plenty of ball from defence throughout the hour while Grace Groome and Aoife Ryan were very good in midfield. Up front Ella Groome and Maria Groome came further out to midfield to win possession against the wind and put in a tireless shift. Despite lots of good play they couldn’t muster a score in the second half due to the brilliant Boherlahan defence in particular the full back line of Rachel Breen, Siobhan O’Brien and Rebecca McLoughlin. While Chloe Tobin also played lots of the game deep in her own half and came out with the world of ball. At the other end when the chance came for another score Mae Kennedy was on hand to fire over a 45m to stretch her side’s lead to 3 points. With the clock ticking down Borris went in search of a goal but struggled to breach the Boherlahan defence. With 2 minutes of normal time remaining a long ball was sent in and was blocked out by Chloe O’Dwyer in the Boherlahan goal. Corner forward Emily Ryan got a super first time connection on the rebound but the sliothar flew narrowly wide. From the puckout Boherlahan went on the attack and Nicole Tarrant fired over her second point from play to seal a 4 point victory to the delight of the Boherlahan following. A great crowd came out from both clubs to support and they were treated to a really enthralling contest by two excellent teams.
