Tipperary 4-12

Dublin 1-12

Three second half goals helped Tipperary to a 4-12 to 1-12 win over Dublin in round 3 of the U16 A All-Ireland Championship. Having lost their opening 2 games Tipperary were badly in need of a win and were full value for their victory on a beautiful sunny afternoon in the County Camogie Grounds. Both sides traded early points in perfect conditions for camogie before Cashel King Cormac’s Emma Bonnar fired home Tipperary’s opening goal to give the home side a 1-02 to 2 point lead after 11 minutes. With Neassa Dwan, Doireann Ryan and Grace Cleary all on target the scores were coming that little bit easier for Tipperary and they went in at the break leading 1-07 to 5 points. Dublin could have further scores on the board if it wasn’t for 2 excellent first half saves from Roisin Ferncombe in the Tipperary goals. Tipp were also guilty of missing some goal chances but rectified this in the second half with 3 more goals. The inside forward line of Doireann Ryan, Isabelle Kingston and Grace Cleary were excellent throughout especially in the second half and finished the game with 3-09 of Tipperary’s 4-12 total.

Doireann Ryan added a goal to her two points while Isabelle Kingston hit 2-02 from play in the second half. Grace Cleary finished the game with 5 points including 3 well struck frees. Dublin also raised a green flag early in the second half from corner forward Niamh Hyland who always looked dangerous and finished the game with 1-02. Mollie Bourke hit 4 frees and 1  from play for  the visitors while subsitutes Sophie McDonnell and Anna MaGee both had an impact coming off the bench with a point each. Neassa Dwan set the tempo for Tipp in the first half with 2 points from midfield and while Ciara  Cahill also worked hard at centre forward. Tipperary got into their stride more in the second half and with the inside forward line looking sharp Dublin couldn’t get close to them. There are 2 games left in the group for Tipperary (post junior cert) with Kilkenny away on the 30th June and Galway at home on the 7th July.
