Junior A League Final

Brian Borus 4-10

Holycross Ballycahill 1-11

A powerful first half display which yielded 4 goals was key to Brian Borus success in the Junior A League final on Sunday evening. Both these teams will have ambitions about winning the junior A championship later in the summer but on Sunday it was Brian Borus who looked the most dangerous as they led 2-01 to no score after 10 minutes. The second goal blasted in from close range by full forward Rebecca Burke giving the Holycross netminder no chance.  Holycross needed to respond and they did with 4 unanswered points including a well taken point from Sophie Lee and a free from Lauren McCormack. However every time the Brian Borus attack won possession they had goal on their mind and they had 2 more goals before half time thanks to Rebecca Burke and Aisling Ryan who were both in devastating form throughout.  In between the goals both teams exchanged points to leave the half time score 4-05 to 6 points. It was a much improved Holycross performance in the second half as they outscored their opposition 1-05 to 5 points.  Declan Carr introduced subs into the forwards at half time whose experience and physicality immediately had an impact with Sarah Ryan, Linda Fanning and Michelle Dwan all getting on the scoresheet. At the other end Brian Borus kept the scoreboard ticking with some well taken scores from Aisling Ryan (who picked up an injury in the second half) and Rebecca Burke. A late goal from Linda Fanning reduced the deficit leaving the final score 4-10 to 1-11. Helen Burke and Helena Walsh along with those already named were the standout performers for the winners.
