Electric Ireland Minor A Championship

Antrim 0-09

Tipperary 2-14

Tipperary made it 3 wins from 3 in the Electric Ireland Minor A championship with a 2-14 to 9 point victory over Antrim. John Ryan’s side made the long trip to Glen Rovers GAA in Armoy to take on the homeside in round 3 of the championship. Having secured early round wins over Kilkenny and Galway Tipperary were firm favourites to come away with full points. They started brightly and with 13 minutes gone had a 3 point advantage as they led 5 points to 2 with scores coming from Caoimhe Stakelum (0-02), Danielle Ryan (0-02) and Lucy Heffernan. Antrim fought back with 3 points on the trot from Mary McArthur, Eobha McAllister and Aimee Ferris to level proceedings but on the 22nd minute Holycross Ballycahill’s Elana McGrath found the back of the net to put Tipp back in front by 3. Another point from Danielle Ryan who was excellent throughout gave Tipperary a half time lead of 1-06 to 5 points. The second half belonged to the visitors as they outscored the homeside 1-08 to 4 points. A point soon after the restart from Danielle Ryan was followed by a goal from a Caoimhe Stakelum free. Ryan and Stakelum continued to cause all sorts of problems for the Antrim defence and added another point each to leave Tipperary in front 2-09 to 7 points by the three quarter mark. Antrim’s scores coming from Eobha McAllister and captain Janey McIntosh. Tipperary got the next 3 scores in a row all from play from Danielle Ryan, Caoimhe Stakelum and Ciara Shelly. Antrim found it difficult to break down the Tipp defence with Aoife Mellerick solid at full back and Caithyln Treacy very strong on the wing. Danielle Ryan got her 6th point of the day all from play and Caoimhe Stakelum pointed a free to complete Tipp’s scoring. Next up for the team is Cork at home on Sunday week April 7th
