‘No Joy for Tipperary U16 Teams’

There was no joy for Tipperary U16 teams at the weekend as both the U16 A and B team were defeated by Limerick in the preliminary round games of the Munster Championship

U16 A Munster Championship

Tipperary  0-07

Limerick 0-11

Due to the dreadful weather and the availability of pitches both games were switched to the UL Astro-Turf Pitch in Limerick with the A team out first for a 3.15pm throw in time.  In an evenly contested first half the sides went in at the break 6 points apiece. However Limerick proved to be the more physically stronger and dangerous in attack and came away with a 4 point victory. Limerick raised their performance after the restart and hit Tipperary with 3 points in succession to give them a 3 point lead (9 points to 6) after 9 minutes. Tipp responded with a point a minute later but unfortunately this was to be their final score of the half as they failed to get to grips with a strong Limerick outfit and missed some scoring opportunities to narrow their lead.

Best for Tipperary on the day was Isabelle Kingston, Doireann Ryan and Ciara Cahill. Their attention now turns to the All-Ireland championship which begins with a home game against Limerick once again on the 4th May.

Tipperary: Rosin Ferncombe, Evanne Gleeson, Ella Frend, Leah Maher, Kellie O’Dwyer, Ciara Cahill, Eavann Duffy, Emma Kennedy(0-01), Nessa Dwan, Jessie Shanahan(0-01),  Isabelle Kingston(0-01), Emma Bonnar, Erin O’Donnell, Doireann Ryan (0-01), Grace Cleary(0-03, 2 frees).

Subs used: Clodagh Shinners for Erin O’Donnell, Grace Stapleton for Grace Cleary

U16B Munster Championship

Tipperary 2-08

Limerick 2-10

A fantastic second half comeback where Tipperary outscored Limerick 1-06 to 0-03 wasn’t enough for the Tipperary U16 B on Saturday. The team will rue their very slow start which saw them trailing to a lively Limerick outfit 2-07 to 1-02 at half time. It was a much improved second half performance full of determination and grit but in the end Limerick enjoyed a 2 point victory. The Tipperary goals (one in each half) came from Rachel Heffernan and Mary Kate Ely. Best for Tipp on the day was Aoibhinn Maher and Abi Kelly. Their attention now turns to the All-Ireland championship.

Tipperary: Meave Leahy, Brid Quirke, Sinead Lonergan, Emma Costello, Ciara Crofton, Jenna Hackett, Emily McGath, Abi Kelly, Emer Brennan, Aoibhinn Maher(0-02), Sarah Williams, Shauna Looby, Grace Flanagan(0-01), Rachel Heffernanan (1-04), Emma Kiely(0-01)
