Tipperary made it two away wins on the trot with a 4 point win over Wexford in Enniscorthy on Saturday. Two first half goals from Anna Fahie and Ciara Brennan gave Tipperary a 3 point lead at half time. And with Gemma Fox excellent at centre back and Emma Flanagan and Jenny Grace continuing their good vein of form in the second half they deservedly secured a 4 point win. In a closely contested opening quarter the sides were all square at 4 points each after 16 minutes. Jenny Grace was working really hard winning possession and scoring frees while Emma Flanagan’s movement and striking yielded two points from play. Wexford’s opening points came from Sal Doyle and Emma Dempsey along with 2 Caoimhe Byrne frees. Anna Fahie then put Tipp 3 points ahead when she finished to the back of the Wexford net after a goalmouth scramble. Caoimhe Byrne reduced the deficit to 2 with a pointed free but 3 minutes later the visitors had their second goal. A long ball in from Ciara Brennan deceived the Wexford keeper to make it 2-04 to 5 points. Just before the half time break Orla Redmond goaled to leave the half time score 2-05 to 1-05.  The second half was another tough physical battle with both sides going toe-toe. Wexford looked to eat into the Tipperary lead  with points from Clodagh Fitzhenry and Caoimhe Byrne. But everytime the homeside got a score Tipperay went up the field and responded with a point. Laura Leenane did very well when introduced with 2 second half points. Jenny Grace finished with 5 points while Emma Flanagan fired over 3 important scores from play. Anna Fahie always looked dangerous in attack while in defence Gemma Fox and Ciara Ryan were the standout performers. Overall it was another very satisfying win for Bill Mullaney’s side as they continue to build nicely. Next up is a home game against Galway on the 2nd March.
