Tipperary vs Cork

Tipperary’s Junior team begin their division 2B league campaign this Saturday at home against Cork. It will be a tough opener facing the current Munster Intermediate champions and All-Ireland semi-finalist. The sides met at the same stage last year with Cork recording a huge win in Cork. With 2 wins in their remaining 3 games, Tipp cemented their place in the division 2b league and went on to have a great championship winning the Munster Junior final final and loosing narrowly to Clare in the All-Ireland Junior Final. There has been plenty of change since then with former Tipperary senior manager Bill Mullaney taking over the reins from David Sullivan along with changes in playing personnel. A number of key players from last year’s team are currently on Denis Kelly’s senior panel while Bill is also without some key experienced players from 2023 including joint captains Ciannait Walsh and Claire Stakelum.

Aoife O’Brien impressed in last year’s final and will look to build on that form on Saturday. Silvermines’s Ciara Ryan brings experience to the defence while upfront Ciara Brennan brings good attacking options to the forward line. Other young players who impressed with their clubs this summer and were in and out of the starting 15 last year include Amy Callanan (Moycarkey Borris) and Caroline Shanahan (Drom-Inch). Players who had standout performances with their clubs and will be available to call on this year include Gortnahoe Glengoole’s Sophie Pembroke who captained her side to a Junior B title in 2023.

On the following weekend Tipperary will travel to take on Clare followed by Wexford away on the 17^th, Galway at home on the 2^nd of March and Kilkenny away a week later in the final group game.
