FBD Insurance Intermediate Championship
Cahir 0-04 Newport Ballinahinch 1-12 Cahir without their star forward Roisin Howard who is gone travelling to Australia struggled against a strong Newport Ballinahinch side in Cahir loosing out 1-12 to 4 points. Shannon Rovers travelled to Toomevara on a wet windy Sunday afternoon and both teams served up a fine game of camogie despite the conditions. In the 4th minute Rovers full forward Gillian McKenna gave a glimpse of what was to come when she plucked the ball out of the sky, turned and blasted to the net. Aoife Mcloughney also scored 3 fine points from play and set up many scores for Gillian and Laura Leenane to leave the half time score 3.06 to 4 points. Toomevara started the second half strongly with Mags Quigley, Shauna Quirke and Eimear Troy in particular bringing the fight to the Rovers girls. However the Rovers girls upped the work rate all over the field, none more so than Áine Cleary, Rachel Hannigan and Eimear Fogarty to send ball inside where Laura Leenane finished the game with 2 goals and player of the match Gillian McKenna with a whopping 4.02 from play.

FBD Insurance Senior Quarter Finals
Thurles Sarsfields 2-19 (25) Eire Og Annacarty 4-09 (21)
Thurles Sarsfields have reached their first ever senior semi-final after a 2-19 to 4-09 win over Eire Og Annacarty on Saturday afternoon. They say ‘goals win games’ but in this case it was an impressive points tally of 19 points that helped Thurles to a 4 point win. Playing with the aid of the win Sars raced into a 5 points to 1 lead before Eva O’Dwyer scored a penalty to reduce the deficit.Once again Karen kennedy was on fire and before long she had struck 3 points from play while Caoimhe Stakelum also had her name on the score sheet. But Annacarty had a second green flag thanks to a class touch from Leah Heffernan. Thurles led at the break 13 points to 2-02. A third goal from Annacarty, Eva O’Dwyers 2nd made it a 2 point game 3:06 to 17 points with 20 minutes gone. But any thoughts of Annacarty going ahead were quickly squashed with 2 goals in quick succession from Thurles. There was still time for one final goal from Annacarty to leave the full time score 2-09 to 4-09 in Thurles’s favour,
In the other quarter final Clonoulty Rossmore were too strong for Silvermines to run out comfortable winners 1-17 to 7 points. Clonoulty had the wind advantage in the first half and a great spread of scorers including Eimear Loughman, Casey Hennessey, Cait Devane and Courtney Ryan to give them a 1-12 to 2 point lead at half time. The second half was a closer affair with both sides scoring 5 points each. Joanne Mcgrath was excellent between the posts for the Mine. Clonoulty now play Borris-Ileigh this Sunday in the County semi-final while. Drom-Inch take on Thurles Sarsfields.
Drom-Inch 5-20 (35)
Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams 1-03 (6)
Drom-Inch firmly put Knockavilla Donaslkeigh Kickhams to the sword on Sunday with a powerful display which the Kickhams players had no real answer to. It was a daunting task for Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams who finished 4th in group 2 to travel to the Ragg on Sunday afternoon to play Group 1 table toppers and a team eyeing a 5th county final in a row. Unlike their group games this year Kickhams failed to trouble their opposition and Drom-Inch quickly imposed their dominance all over the field. Quick points in succession from Eimear McGrath (2 frees), Niamh Treacy and Katie O’Dwyer put the homeside 4 points up after 10 minutes. Eimear Heffernan Kickhams sole scorer on the day pointed a free after 14 minutes for Knockavilla’s opening score. They failed to add to this for the rest of the opening half while Drom-Inch thanks to some slick passing and great movement created and finished a further 4 unanswered points , 2 each for Eimear McGrath and Miriam. Campion. There was further trouble for Knockavilla when Drom-Inch struck 2 goals on the bounce just before the half time whistle. Mary Burke with the first after a brilliant solo run through the heart of the Kickhams defence before finishing pass Sheena Ryan in the goal. In the process she injured her collar bone and had to be substituted. A minute late Eimear McGrath also raised a green flag and at half time the result was beyond doubt with Drom-Inch leading 2-08 to 0-01.
All championship Ereena Fryday, Caoimhe McCarthy and Eimear Heffernan have starred for Knockavilla but on Sunday their influence was limited by an excellent Drom-Inch outfit. Ereena still impressed with plenty of clearances and no shortage of work at centre back. But she couldn’t get forward and add to the attack which she has done to great effect in previous games. Aoife McGrath was brilliant in midfield covering a huge amount of ground, linking the defence and the attack, picking off 4 points of play and curbing the influence of Caoimhe McCarthy. While the Drom-Inch back 6 was physical, dogged and superb in possession ensuring the Kickhams attack including key markswoman Eimear Heffernan failed to score from play. Beth Ryan, Jade and Jessie Collins all put in good shifts also for the West Tipp side but unfortunately for them they came up against an excellent Drom-Inch side who really hit form on Sunday. Three second half goals from Miriam Campion, Eimear McGrath and Joanne Ryan extended Drom-Inch’s lead. Eimear Heffernan pointed 2 frees for Kickhams before burying a goal from a superbly struck 21 yard free in the 56th minute to complete her and Kickham’s tally. Final score Drom-Inch 5-20, Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams, 1-03.

Borris-ileigh 1-13
Burgess Duharra 0-14
Borris-ileigh are through to this Sunday’s FBD Insurance Senior semi-final after a 2 point victory over Burgess Duharra . The huge crowd that gathered in Borrisoleigh witnessed an enthralling battle between two determined teams. The game went right down to the wire with extra time looking like a real possibility as Jenny Grace fired over a 61st minute free to tie the game 1-11 to 14 points. But there was time for more drama and when a Borris-ileigh free was bought forward for dissent the classy Nicole Walsh made no mistake in putting Borris into the lead. Immediately Duharra went on the attack and a great ball in by Caoimhe Maher fell to her sister Ciardha who was playing her first game in 5 weeks after a serious shoulder injury. She came storming through like a train but fired her shot narrowly wide. Moments later Teresa Ryan who had grown more into the game as it progressed was on the attack for Borris-Ileigh and won herself a free which Nicole pointed to put 2 between the sides deep in injury time. Burgess were to get one more opportunity and landed a long range free into the danger zone. Borris defended gallantly and cleared their lines as TP Sullivan sounded the full time whistle to the delight of the home crowd.
Borris-ileigh got off to a dream start when Aoife Ryan who was a handful all night made a great run at pace towards the Burgess Duharra goals and finished with a goal after 4 minutes to add to Nicole Walsh’s 1st minute pointed free. Before Aoife’s goal Burgess missed a goal chance of their own one of probably 4 or 5 good goal chances that went a begging throughout the hour. This will be their biggest regret that especially when they had the aid of a strong wind in the opening half they only went in at the break 1 point up 9 points to 1-05. In reality they should have executed some of their goal opportunities but credit must also go to Kellie Healy in the Borris goal who was brilliant and pulled off some superb point blank saves. The first half was played at a great tempo with the Monday night under lights factor adding to the drama and excitement. Jenny Grace and Nicole Walsh traded points from play and frees while Caoimhe and Ciardha Maher also pointed in an entertaining opening 20 minutes. Borris led 1-05 to 7 approaching half time before 2 in a row from Jenny Grace gave them the slightest lead at the break 1-05 to 9 points. Burgess Duharra had extended their lead to 3 by the 35th minute with a Jenny Grace free and an excellent point from the wing by Kaithlin O’Halloran. But the Borris-Ileigh response was excellent with 5 unanswered points in a 5 minute spell as they began to get on top in most areas of the field. Again Nicole Walsh ‘s free taking was crucial as she nailed 4 frees while Ava Bevans also pointed to make it 1-10 to 11 as the game looked to be slipping away from the visitors. But Burgess were never going to lie down and with Jenny Grace excellent in the middle of the field from general play along with another 2 pointed frees she soon had the gap back to 1. Another Nicole free was cancelled out by Jenny in the 61st minute to level the game at 1-11 to 14. Two more frees by Nicole bought her personal tally to 11 points and completed the scoring as Borris recorded a famous 1-13 to 14 point victory.
