FBD Insurance Championship Round 3 – Round-Up

Senior

Thurles Sarsfields and Drom-Inch played out a cracking encounter in front of a great crowd in Thurles on Sunday morning. A very determined and physically strong Sars side really put it up to the county champions who found themselves trailing 1-09 to 1-08 at the break. Drom’s first half goal coming from Mary Burke who excelled at centre forward.  An early Eimear McGrath goal gave Drom the advantage at the start of the second half but there was little between the sides throughout as both both forwards exchanged points in a free flowing high scoring game. A third goal for the visitors courtesy of Mary Burke ensured victory for Drom on a final scoreline of 3-16 to 2-15. The Thurles second half goal coming from a Caoimhe Stakelum penalty. For Sars Karen Kennedy and Lucy Purcell were impressive while Drom’s Miriam Campion proved a handful for the homeside.

In the other game in the group Burgess Duharra and Silvermines played out a tough battle and at half time Burgess Duharra went in a point up 0.9-0.8.  Th second half saw both teams exchanging points with Silvermines going a point up before Caoimhe Maher raised the green flag with an excellently finished goal, putting Burgess Duharra 2 points up.  Burgess Duharra added a few more points before Silvermines hit the back of the net from a free, however Burgess Duharra held on to their lead. Final score 1.16-1.11. There was only one game played in group 2 between Eire Og Annacarty and Clonoulty Rossmore.  60 minutes failed to separate the sides and it finished all square 11 points to Clonoulty’s 1-08. Moneygall started brightly and dominated the early exchanges with Boherlahan Dualla in their third round of the Intermediate Championship to lead 1-03 to no score. A superb passage of play by the Boherlahan Dualla forwards resulted in Sarah Delaney blasting the sliotar to the net for the first score for the visitors. Boherlahan found themselves 7 points down at half (1-09 to 1-02)  but came back fighting in the second half and worked very hard to narrow the Moneygall lead to 2 points late in the second half but Moneygall held out for the win with Mary Ryan leading the defence and Niamh Larkin finishing with 1-04. For Boherlahan some very accurate free taking by Emma Horgan proved crucial along with great work from their defence especially full back Aoife Kavanagh. Toomevara recorded their win in the championship since 2019 when they defeated Cahir away from home 1-16 to 1-08. Their crucial goal coming 20 minutes into the second half courtesy of Shauna Quirke.
