FBD Insurance Championship Round Up

Senior Championship

In group 1 Silvermines had a big win over Nenagh winning on a final scoreline of 3-17 to 1-09. Brid Quinn was excellent in defence while Ellen Cunneen caused lots of problems with her excellent running to help Silvermines get their championship campaign off to a winning start. In the other game of the group Drom-Inch earned a hard fought win over Burgess Duharra after an entertaining battle in the Ragg. Goals from Michelle Woodlock, Joanne Ryan, Aoife McGrath and the impressive Eimear McGrath proved crucial for the county champions. For Burgess Duharra Caoimhe and Ciardha Maher were the standout performers. In group 2 Borris-Ileigh came from 0-12 0-04 down at half  time to record an impressive one point victory over Cashel King Cormacs in Borrisoleigh in front of a delighted home crowd. For Cashel Philly Fogarty, Karin Blair and Anna Fahie all impressed as they raced into an early lead with the advantage of the wind. But credit to Borris-Ileigh they put in a huge second half performance and a pointed free from the deadly accurate Nicole Walsh sealed victory and a first win for the group in senior ranks. On a wet and windy Friday night in Clonoulty , the homeside were deserving winners over Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams. Led by Cait Devane and Courtney Ryan Clonoulty went in at half time in a commanding position leading 13 points to 3. Kickhams battle hard with Caoimhe McCarthy key in midfield but they lacked the fire power up front to cause real trouble to a Clonoulty defence in which Eimear Loughman was pick of the bunch.

Intermediate

An unbelievable individual tally of 1-17 from Roisin Howard helped Cahir to a 2-21 to 1-06 victory over Kilruane MacDoangh’s in their opening game of the Intermediate championship. It was huge team effort from Cahir with brilliant performances in every line. The defence was excellent especially Laura Dillion and Aoife Flynn holding Kilruane to just a goal and 6 points. Last year’s beaten finalists Shannon rovers had 2 points to spare over last year’s  junior A champions Moneygall. (1-12 to 1-10). Best for Rovers was Gillian McKenna who finished with 1-01 from play, Nimah Franks, Julie Brennan and Aoife McLoughney. Moneygall’s goal came from an expertly struck 20m free by Caitlin Treacy while Mary Ryan and Bronagh Kenneally also stood out for them. Boherlahan Dualla raced into an early 7 point to 3 lead against Toomevara at the weekend. But Toome fought back with a well worked goal from Aisling McCromack to leave the sides level 1-05 to 8 points at half time. With the wind advantage in the second half and the loss of key Toomevara forward Gemma McCarthy Boherlahan ran out 1-16 to 1-08 winners with Clodagh Horgan, Sarah Delaney and Mya Hickey all getting on the scoresheet.

Junior A

In group 1 Brian Borus had 4 points to spare over Kiladangan winning 1-12 to 1-08 while Drom-Inch pipped Templmore in Clonmore 1-10 to 1-08. Last year’s Junior B winners Moycarkey Borris proved too strong for Ballina winning 3-23 to 3 points. Kate Ralph, Sarah Corcoran and Caoimhe Fitzgibbon were excellent for the winners. While in the other game in the group Holycross Ballycahill had a 3 point win over St Rita’s Fethard 2-07 to 10.

Junior B

Cashel King Cormacs defeated St Cronans 3-08 to 1—1 while Ballingarry had a narrow 1 point win over Carrick Swans 1-10 to 1-09. The Silvermines and Portroe game fell foul of storm Betty on Friday evening and was abandoned at half time while Gortnahoe who were defeated in this year’s league final beat Moyle Rovers 12 points to 2-04

Junior B2

Holycross Ballycahill were excellent last Wednesday evening beating Burgess Duharra 4-16 to 1-05. While the only other fixture Borris-ileigh and Annacarty was called off by the referee before the throw in due to the dreadful weather conditions.
