A big Weekend For Tipp  Camogie

This coming weekend is another big weekend for Tipperary camogie as both the senior and junior team hope to record victories away from home.

Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Senior Championship

Tipperary VS Wexford – Saturday 24th June, Bellefield, Enniscorthy @ 4pm

After a brilliant opening start to the championship with an impressive 2-19 to1-06 win over Dublin Denis Kelly’s side travel to Wexford to take on the homeside in round 2 this Saturday. Having drawn with the All-Ireland champions Kilkenny in their opening game Wexford will provide a much tougher test for Tipperary. Trailing by 10 points they showed huge determination to secure the draw thanks to a late equaliser by Ciara O’Connor. Ciara O’Connor finished with 9 points on the day, 5 from frees while  Aine Lacey bagged 1-01. If Tipp are to succeed on Saturday they will need to curb the influence of Wexford centre back Sarah O’Connor who is a key player in Colin Sutherland’s (former Oulart-the-Ballagh manager) side. It will be interesting to see if Tipp make any changes from the fifteen that started against Dublin. The team were ruthless in the opening half taking full advantage of the breeze to lead 1-12 to 0-02 at the break. Cait Devane was in flying form with a goal in each half and will likely to take up position at the edge of the square where she will be marked by Ciara Storey. Grace O’Brien, Roisin Howard and Caoimhe Maher all looked really sharp in the win over Dublin and will hope to carry this good vein of form into Saturday’s clash. A win for Tipp will guarantee a qualifying spot with Kilkenny waiting in the final group in Nowlan park on Saturday July 1st.

Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Junior Championship

Tipperary VS Cavan – Saturday 24th June, Kingspan, Breffini Park @ 2pm

It was one way traffic in the County Camogie Grounds when Tipperary took on Wicklow in the opening round of the Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Junior Championship. With only 3 teams in the group Tipperary have all ready secured a quarter final spot but a win a way to Cavan who equally had a big score haul against Wicklow will mean Tipperary top the group. All the group winners will go into a draw with a chance of going straight into a semi-final. As well as the possibility of a direct place in an All-Ireland semi-final a win away from home will give David Sullivan’s side huge momentum heading into the crucial knockout stages. Jean Kelly stole the headlines against Wicklow with an amazing personal tally of 5-04. Four of her goals came in the second half as Wicklow really struggled with her running. Clodagh Horgan was positioned at full forward against Wicklow and she finished with 5 points to play to help her side to a comprehensive victory. Cavan are All-Ireland contenders having reached last year’s semi-finals while also beating Tipperary in the County Camogie Grounds in the group stages. Last year’s meeting was a very close encounter. Tipp lead at the break 1-05 to 0-07. However, Cavan had the better of the second half and had a six point lead before Tipperary mounted a comeback. The Premier had a difficult free to level the game late on but Aoife McLoughney saw her shot drift right and wide. Cavan’s performance was consistent throughout while Tipperary were guilty of fading out of the game and playing in fits and spurts. This is something that they still need to address with a huge performance for 60 plus minutes on Saturday needed.
