All-Ireland U16 A Championship

Tipperary 2-08

Wexford 1-11

Tipperary hosted Wexford in the County Camogie Grounds, the Ragg in the latest round of the under 16A All Ireland camogie championship on Sunday with the sides finishing all square, Tipperary 2.08, Wexford 1.11. Tipperary had the upper hand in the early stages with centre forward Ava Gaynor scoring a great goal and a point inside the first few minutes. Lucy Heffernan,  Elana McGrath and Caoimhe Stakelum scored a point each from play and Caoimhe added two pointed frees to leave the Tipp girls leading 1.06 to 1.02 at half time.

The second half brought a Wexford revival and they drew level on the scoreboard before some excellent play by Lucy O Brien set up the onrushing Ava Gaynor to score her second goal. By now this high quality game was being played at a frantic pace with Caoimhe Stakelum adding another two points, one from a free. The Tipp defence were under serious pressure at times from Wexford's Layla Stafford, and in particular Emma McCarthy who scored 1.03 from play to add to her 6 pointed frees to leave the sides level going into injury time. Tipperary's impressive wing back Maeve Cunneen went on a lung bursting run up through the middle of the field with the last play of the game in an effort to find the winning point but alas it wasn't to be... in the end the points were shared in what was a fair result to send both sets of supporters home happy.

So with three rounds played Tipperary find themselves with one win, one defeat and one draw which puts them third in the group. Cork are on top with Galway second. With the top 4 teams to qualify for an All-Ireland semi-final the last two games for Tipp will be crucial. They break now for the junior cert and then face Limerick away on the 2nd of July and Cork at home a week later.
