FBD Insurance Junior B semi-final

Portroe  1-11

Silvermines  0-05

Portroe booked their place in this year’s FBD Insurance Junior B Championship final after a 9 point victory over Silvermines in Nenagh on Sunday. They now await the winners of Moycarkey Borris and St Cronan’s in the other semi-final in their bid to win a county title and gain promotion to Junior A in 2023. Silvermines ultimately will be disappointed with their low scoring performance after having such a good scoring record in previous matches. Portroe had the opening 2 points of the game before Dearbhla Slattery scored a 45m for Silvermines. Both sides exchanged further points but a goal on the 20th minute from Michelle O’Halloran after some great work by Grace Mulrooney put Portroe in the driving seat. Points from play from Yasmin and Leila Madden left the sides, Portroe 1-7 to Silvermines 0-3 at halftime. Silvermines pressed hard in the second half to try to turn the game in their favour but Port were on song throughout the field. Tishy O’Halloran lead the way clearing everything that came her way and delivering quality ball to her forwards. Tishy was well assisted by Niamh Bray in the second half while Rosie Staunton was excellent up front converting four points from play. Although the game was competitive Portroe led from the start while Silvermines struggled to convert. Tishy O’Halloran, Aimee Muphy and Sarah Murphy were excellent in the backs while Nessa O’Driscoll was on her game in goal dealing with some high lobbing balls and clearing her line. In the second half Silvermines continued to struggle to break down the Portroe defence and could only manage 2 more points while Portroe extended their lead with 4 points of their own. For Silvermines Aoife Ryan, Sarah Murray, Caoimhe Delaney and Rebecca Forde all raised white flags. Best for them in defeat was Aoife Ryan and Una Ryan Prenderville. For the winners Claire O’Brien and Katie Ryan at midfield worked very hard and delivered some great ball into the forwards where Grace Mulrooney had a great game at wing forward and supplied the ball for many of Ports scores.
