Tipperary Camogie Feile na Gael 2022

On Easter Monday April 18th, Tipperary Camogie held Feile na Gael 2022. The day began with 3 divisions of camogie taking place in 6 venues around the county. Division A group games were held in Ballylooby and Borrisoleigh. Boherlahan Dualla, Brian Borus, Holycross Ballycahill, Annacarty and Ballybacon kicked off their group games in Ballylooby at 10am while Moycarkey Borris Borris-Ileigh, Silvermines, Toomevara and Newport Ballinahinch all got their games underway in Borrisoleigh.

Dundrum was the venue for division B with Shannon Rovers, Kiladangan, Rockwell Rovers and Clonoulty Rossmore in one group while Kilruane MacDonagh’s, Cashel King Cormacs, Burgess Duharra and St Rita’s Fethard made up the second group.

Portroe and Ballycahill were the venues for division C. In Portroe Lorrha, Portroe, Moyle Rovers, Ballina and Moneygall got their games underway at 10am. In Ballycahill Gortnahoe Glengoogle, St Pat’s, Slieve Felim and Cahir also had a packed morning of camogie. A special word of thanks to all 6 venues for hosting the group games. A big thanks also to the co-ordinators in each venue and the referees. The camogie on display was top class with girls giving it there all in a bid to qualify for a semi-final spot. After a brilliant morning of goals, points, saves and tackles the top two teams from each group qualified for the semi-finals which were held in Dr Morris Park, Thurles at 3pm. Heading to Thurles for the semi finals in division A were Brian Borus, Boherlahan Dualla, Moycarkey Borris and Silvermines. In Division B Shannon Rovers, Rockwell Rovers, Burgess Duharra and Kilruane MacDonaghs qualified for the semi-finals. While in division C Ballina, Moneygall, Slieve Felim and St Pat’s reached the semi-finals. In the first of the division A semi-finals Brian Borus defeated Silvermines 1-04 to 1-01. The second semi-final was another close affair with Boherlahan Dualla needing a late point to win 4 points to 3. In division B Shannon Rovers and Kilruane MacDonagh’s served up another close contest with Shannon Rovers eventually winning by 2 points. Rockwell Rovers showed great spirit and determination in their semi-final but were defeated by a very strong Burgess Duharra team 6-03 to 0-1. In the first of the division C semi-finals Ballina enjoyed a point victory over St Pat’s 1-3 to 1-2. They’re opponents in the final was decided when Slieve Felim recorded a 2-6 to 1-2 victory over Moneygall after another fine game of camogie.

And so the scene was set at the end of a superb day of camogie for 3 finals. The first game got underway at 4.45pm between Brian Borus and Boherlahan Dualla in the A final. Boherlahan Dualla led at half time 1-07 to 0-2. In the second half a Brian Borus player suffered an injury and unfortunately an ambulance had to be called and the game abandoned. We wish the player in question a speedy recovery and hope to see her back on the field of play again soon. The final will be replayed at a later date.

Burgess Duharra and Shannon Rovers served up a great contest in the division b final with Burgess Duharra holding a slight lead at the interval 2-1 to 1-1. Despite their best efforts Shannon Rovers failed to score in the second half and Burgess Duharra ran out winners 3-2 to 1-1 to the delight of players and supporters alike.

The C final was a real cliff hanger that needed extra time to eventually declare a winner. At full time the score read Slieve Felim 1-5 to Ballina’s 2-2. It was nip and tuck in extra time with both sides defending furiously. Scores were at a minimum as bodies began to tire and at the full time whistle it was Slieve Felim who were celebrating a fantastic win 1-6 to 2-2.

Congratulations to all the clubs and their management teams that took part throughout the day. A brilliant advertisement for camogie in the county!
