FBD Insurance Minor Round-Up

Minor A semi-final

Cashel KC 3-18

Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams 0-3

Cashel are through to the FBD Insurance Minor A final after a comprehensive win over Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams. Cashel raced into an early lead with Ciara Moloneys goal setting the tone just before the 1st waterbreak.  From there Cashel never looked back running out deserving winners in a very controlled display. At half time they led 1-12 to 0-1 and added another 2-05 in the second half in what was an impressive performance against an understrength Kickhams side who battled hard throughout. They had no answer though to the Cashel attack with Anna Fahie in fine form finishing with a personal tally of 1-09. Erin Gillespie also found the back of the net while Grace Moloney had 4 points to her name. Unfortunately for the girls from the West they could find no way past the Cashel defence led by captain Aoibhe Gayson Molloy at centre back. In the end all 3 of Knockavilla’s points came from Rebecca Farrell placed balls. Cashel will face a much sterner test this Sunday in the Camogie Grounds when they take on Annacarty @11am.

 Minor C quarter-final

Thurles Sarsfields 7-10

Gortnahoe Glengoole 2-12

Gortnahoe Glengoole had home advantage after topping their group in the minor C championship. The fields in Gortnahoe was in top condition for winter hurling and both teams relished the opportunity to play for a semi final spot.

Grace Campion was the stand out player throughout for Gortnahoe and created constant pressure on the Sarsfields backline. She forced the Sarsfields management to make changes as her threat was relentless. Ella Moloney took up the role for the second half and relieved some pressure.

Sarsfields looked to senior player Aoife Dwyer to lead the team and that she did, as younger players Chloe Shorley and Maria Ralph stood up to be counted and scored 6 goals between them.

Louise Bergin kept Gortnahoe in the game in the second half as she rattled the net and lifted the Gortnahoe girls for the final 15 minutes as they struck 2:4.

Gortnahoe will feel if they had Helen Cleere the game was there for the taking but goals win matches and the girls from the Cathedral town took every opportunity.

Sarsfields march on to the semi final where they meet Newport.
